Police Arrest Teen After Carjacking

Police have arrested a 16-year-old Santa Paula resident on suspicion of stealing a car and threatening its owner at knifepoint.
The teen, along with another youth who eluded police, allegedly brandished a knife Wednesday evening to get a driver--who slowed down on Mill Street as he came to a set of railroad tracks--to give up his Ford Thunderbird, the police report said.
The youths drove the car north on Mill Street, headed west on Santa Paula Street and began ramming the Ford into a Suzuki Samurai occupied by three females and was stopped at a light, according to the report. The unidentified females were treated at Santa Paula Hospital and released.
Authorities said the youths later lost control of the car on Pleasant Street and crashed into a fence, then fled on foot. Police responded to reports of the crash at 9:45 p.m. and arrested the 16-year-old suspect 10 minutes later.
The teen is a suspected gang member with an outstanding felony warrant. He was taken to Juvenile Hall.
