Michigan to Go With Brady
Junior Tom Brady will start at quarterback over highly touted freshman Drew Henson when Michigan opens its season Sept. 5 at Notre Dame.
The 6-foot-5, 213-pound Brady completed 12 of 15 passes for 103 yards in four games as backup to starter Brian Griese last season as the Wolverines won a share of the national championship.
“Drew Henson has been here two weeks and Tom Brady’s been here three years,” Coach Lloyd Carr said. “Tom Brady knows the offense. He’s a talented guy. Tom Brady is a fighter, he’s a competitor, so I don’t sell him short at all.”

New Mexico State’s projected starting fullback, accused of stealing a compact disc player from a car, has been charged with one count of auto burglary and one count of larceny.
According to a grand jury indictment filed Aug. 20, senior Joey Dozier took the CD player after he entered an automobile without authorization or permission and with the intent to commit theft.
Coach Tony Samuel said no disciplinary action currently is planned against Dozier, who was continuing practice with the team. “We’ll wait and see,” Samuel said. “He swears he’s not guilty.”

Damon Myers played against Kent in Navy’s last 1997 home game. Four days later he was given a diagnosis of lymphoma, cancer of the lymph nodes, but he’s now practicing with the Midshipmen as a backup wide receiver.
Myers had more than three months of treatment at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland before being released March 6. He was back at the Academy two weeks later and has been working there ever since.
