2 Killed, 1 Hurt in Plunge Off Angeles Forest Road

Two people were killed and a third was injured after their car crashed and plunged more than 100 feet into water Sunday near California 39 in Angeles National Forest, officials said.

Authorities believe that the three people were riding in a vehicle that careened off the road at 3:42 p.m. one mile south of East Fork Road.

It was not clear whether the two died in the crash or the subsequent fall. The identities of the victims were not released.

A third person, a 19-year-old man, was found trapped in the vehicle and airlifted to Pasadena’s Huntington Memorial Hospital. His name was not released, at the request of his family, officials said.

The 19-year-old--who suffered no fractures and was listed in serious but stable condition late Sunday--could not remember much about the incident, including the other passengers or what had happened, a hospital spokesman said.

The survivor was plucked from the water, along with the two bodies, by Los Angeles County Fire Department dive teams.

The vehicle was traveling in a rural area north of Glendora where there is a reservoir, a dam and a stream. Water was running Sunday because it was being released from the dam, officials said.

Authorities said they did not know the cause of the accident or other details of the crash.
