Cincinnati Assistant Fired
University of Cincinnati assistant John Loyer, accused of committing improprieties in the school’s basketball program, has been fired as top assistant to Coach Bob Huggins.
The university announced Tuesday that Loyer was informed of his firing in a letter dated Nov. 19.
The firing stems from an investigation that found widespread violations in the school’s basketball program, leading the NCAA to conclude there was a lack of institutional control over the program. The NCAA put Cincinnati on two years’ probation, took away three scholarships over two years and restricted recruiting.
