Making Connections
Disposing of such items as old paint, pesticides and used motor oil doesn’t have to be troublesome. It only takes a little planning.
For instance, the city of Los Angeles’ Hazmobile collects household hazardous waste at various locations around the city throughout the year. For the nearest one, or a list of certified used motor oil recycling centers in Los Angeles, call the city’s household hazardous waste hotline at (800) 988-6942.
However, city residents don’t need the Hazmobile to dispose of dried-up water-based paint. Just take the lid off the can and toss it in the black trash can. Used spray paint cans may be placed in the curbside recycling bin.
County residents can dispose of their unwanted hazardous items at one of the many household hazardous waste roundups the county’s sanitation department runs each year.
Unacceptable items include explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials and tires.
For a list of upcoming roundup sites in the county, call (800) 238-0172. More information is available on the Internet at https:www.lacsd.org.
