Prop. 209 Ruling
* I am angered that one man, Superior Court Judge Lloyd Connelly, is able to make a ruling that kills the intended purpose of Proposition 209 (“Judge Upholds Key Affirmative Action Laws,” Dec. 3). The people of California decided to outlaw “affirmative action,” a sneaky euphemism for racial discrimination by the state.
Because of Connelly’s ruling, the color of skin a person was born with will be officially allowed to influence whether he/she wins or loses in competitions for employment or university admission. This position is morally and intellectually dishonest and corrupt. No innocent child anticipating adulthood today should have to bear that burden: that he/she was born with the wrong color of packaging--a fact over which he/she had no control.
