Lou Cvijanovich was typically unfazed when he became the winningest boys’ basketball coach in California history.
Cvijanovich, coach at Oxnard Santa Clara High, earned his 803rd victory Tuesday night with 79-47 victory over Carpinteria.
Cvijanovich, 72, is 803-259 in 40-plus seasons at Santa Clara. He broke the record of 802 victories set by Abe Abrami of Emeryville Emery High from 1955 to ‘93, according to the Cal-Hi Sports record book.
“I’m very happy,” Cvijanovich said after the game. “It’s our fourth victory of the season.”
Cvijanovich has coached Santa Clara to two state titles, 14 Southern Section championships and 38 playoff appearances.
