Second-Half Burst Boosts Valley, 86-55
Tynisha Howze scored 11 points and had 16 rebounds, and Valley College outscored Citrus by 21 points in the second half, rolling to an 86-55 victory Friday night in a championship semifinal of the Valley tournament.
The Monarchs (7-2) will face Umpqua (Ore.), an 81-61 winner over Moorpark, for the championship tonight at 6. In consolation semifinals, Chaffey defeated El Camino, 76-52, and Cypress defeated Mt. San Antonio, 80-63.
In other women’s basketball games:
Golden West 71, Pierce 64--Cheryl Flores scored 18 points and Stephanie Taylor added 17 for Pierce (4-4) in a consolation semifinal of the Hancock tournament.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Valley 56, Saddleback 52--Jerrohn Jordan made two free throws with 4.9 seconds to play for Valley in a consolation semifinal of the Santa Barbara City tournament.
Tyree Williams made six key free throws in the last five minutes for Valley (7-7).
Canyons 94, Victor Valley 80--Anthony Ellison scored 22 of his 32 points in the second half for Canyons (6-6) in a nonconference game at Victor Valley. Ron Slater added 22 points for Canyons.
