Shelters for Homeless
Re “Councilman Assisting Effort to Open Homeless Shelter,” Dec. 2.
It has become evident that the city of Ventura, in its quest for recognition as Destination Spot of the New Millennium, seems to be losing its heart. Witness the City Council’s refusal to fund homeless shelters and the city’s refusal to allow citizens to feed the homeless in public parks.
The situation downtown with the less fortunate is complicated and serious. However, while it is investigating other alternatives, the city should not abruptly end funding to programs for the homeless.
Now, in an attempt to show that the City Council has a heart, Councilman Brian Brennan is playing host to the Turning Point’s homeless benefit. To Mr. Brennan and to the City Council at large, we say, “Put your vote where your heart is.”
