MOORPARK — A man was hospitalized after a head-on collision between the car he was driving and a big rig on California 118 west of Moorpark on Monday afternoon, police said.
The man, who was airlifted by helicopter to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, was not immediately identified by authorities. He was undergoing surgery late Monday night.
The highway, a popular commuter route, was closed for about 1 1/2 hours after the accident occurred about 4 p.m., just as the evening rush hour was getting underway, said Officer David Webb of the California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred east of the highway’s intersection with Hitch Boulevard in an area known colloquially as “blind curve,” Webb said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
