Councilman Peter Buffa, credited with pushing through large-scale improvements to the downtown area, left office earlier this month after 12 years on the council and two years on the Planning Commission. He chose not to seek reelection in November. Other council members credit Buffa with improving not only downtown but also the South Coast Metro area.
