This Time Hackett Likes What He Sees
Coach Paul Hackett’s concerns about his team’s preparation were soothed by Monday’s practice, with only about six players missing on the final day of exams and a team of officials on hand to help simulate game conditions.
“It was a huge difference. We zeroed in,” Hackett said.
“We watched film of TCU together, and any time a guy is running for an average of 6.7 yards [TCU tailback Basil Mitchell], that’s significant. Once you start getting specific, naturally the intensity picks up.
“One thing this team has been consistent about . . . is it really responded when the issues were put in front of them.”
USC has seven practices remaining.

Receiver Windrell Hayes’ toe injury is not responding as well as hoped, and Hackett called him “iffy,” though Hayes will try to practice today. Defensive tackle Aaron Williams still isn’t practicing because of a high ankle sprain but Hackett said he expects him to be available for the game.
