Texas Tech Overpowers Loyola
Rene Hanebutt and Angie Braziel each scored 20 points to lead No. 10 Texas Tech to a 82-59 victory over Loyola Marymount in the semifinals of the Ala Moana Hotel Paradise Classic at Honolulu.
Texas Tech (9-1) will meet Hawaii in today’s final.
Hanebutt scored 17 points in the first half, and sat out most of the second half after the Lady Raiders built a big lead. She made six of 12 shots, five of seven from three-point range.
Loyola (3-7) came within 13 points with 9:41 to play before Texas Tech pulled away again.
Dana Hunter led Loyola with 15 points.
Ashley Smith made a three-point shot and followed with a steal, layup and two free throws in the second overtime as Vanderbilt (4-5) scored an 80-72 upset of No. 21 George Washington (6-3) at Washington. . . . Linda Miles scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half to help No. 15 Rutgers (9-2) to an 81-61 victory over Maryland (0-9) at College Park, Md.
