For Rockettes Fans, It’ll Be Gams Galore at L.A. Show
They kick assets like nobody’s business with their legs--long, lean and limber.
We’re talking about the world-famous Rockettes, their eye-high kicks and all the other leggy stuff they do in the first “Los Angeles Radio City Christmas Spectacular” at the Universal Amphitheatre.
The show--with dancing teddy bears, ice skaters, a “Living Nativity” and Santa with his animated workshop--has been packing ‘em in. But it’s those gals (all of whom seem to have that Fran Drescher face), their sexy legs and those sparkling, next-to-nothing outfits that, well, have a leg up on the rest of us.
Here are some other leggy facts:
* The first group kicked to life in 1925 as the Missouri Rockets. In 1932, the Rockettes, who were first dubbed the Roxyettes, made their New York stage debut.
* More than 2,000 women have danced as Rockettes.
* Rockettes must be between 5 feet, 5 1/2 inches and 5 feet, 9 inches tall.
* The illusion of uniform height is maintained by putting the tallest dancers in the center and gradually decreasing the height until the shortest women are at either end.
* The Rockettes change into seven costumes. More than 500 pairs of pantyhose will be worn in 40 shows.
The show runs through Tuesday. For information, call (818) 622-4440.
