City Offers Options for Recycling Christmas Trees

With the end of the holidays, city residents will have several options of discarding their trees.

Residents can drop off trees at their trash pickup sites on regularly scheduled collection days or place cut-up trees in their green waste recycling containers. The city will continue to provide regular trash pickup and recycling services on New Year’s Day.

For the tree drop-off program, the city is operating two sites at Brace Canyon Park and Verdugo Park. Residents can drop off their trees from Saturday until Jan. 15. City trucks will collect trees from these locations beginning Jan. 4.

The Burbank Recycle Center is asking that residents remove tinsel, ornaments, metal tree stands and any other plastic or metal attached to the trees because they may damage the recycling equipment. Flocked trees cannot be composted.

Burbank residents with green waste recycling containers should cut their trees to fit and put the containers on the curb on collection day.

Last year, more than 80 tons of trees from Burbank residents were composted through the recycling program, according to the Burbank Recycle Center.

The two drop-off sites are located at 2850 Haven Way, at the parking lot off Haven Way at Brace Canyon Park, and at 3201 West Verdugo Ave., near the corner of California Street and Verdugo on the south side of Verdugo Park.
