Ex-TV Anchor Accused of Bomb Threat

A former TV anchor for Fox Sports Americas, a Spanish-language cable network, was arrested on suspicion of making a bomb threat after he faxed a former co-worker a threatening letter, police said Wednesday.

Rudolpho Martin, 45, of Los Angeles was released from jail early Wednesday after posting $5,000 bail in cash, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Riverside Police Det. Jay Greenstein said the victim received the fax, written in Spanish, at his Riverside home Dec. 1.

Martin’s note said that “he was going to plant a bomb next to me, that the next time I entered the [Fox Sports] building, it would be over for me,” said the former co-worker, who asked not to be identified.

The former co-worker added that Martin seemed to have “a very disruptive personality” and that he on occasion punched walls and threatened other colleagues.

According to former colleagues, Martin was a sports anchor and a commentator who was an independent contractor for Fox. Several of Martin’s colleagues had signed a letter to Fox management complaining about his behavior, which they described as unprofessional and abusive.

Martin was very cooperative at the time of his arrest Tuesday and “denied ever making the bomb threat,” Greenstein said.

Fox Sports Americas officials, whose network is based in Century City, would not comment on Martin or his arrest. But Greenstein and Martin’s former colleagues said he no longer works there.

Martin is scheduled to be arraigned on the felony bomb threat charge Jan. 21, Greenstein said.

Martin could not be reached for comment.
