Volunteers Sought for Community Center
The city of Calabasas is seeking two volunteers to serve on the Agoura Hills and Calabasas Community Center Authority, a body created to oversee the daily operations of the planned Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center.
Candidates should have a “genuine interest” in the recreational facility, said Greg Johnson, the Calabasas community services director.
The two selected will sit on a seven-member board along with council members of both cities, two residents from Agoura Hills and a representative of the Community Center Alliance, a fund-raising nonprofit group for the center.
Construction of the $5-million-plus facility should begin this spring, with a grand opening planned for early 1999, Johnson said.
The 30,000-square-foot center--which will be located at 27040 Malibu Hills Road--will offer area residents a gymnasium, weights and exercise room, dance room, community meeting room, and teen and senior centers.
Those interested can pick up an application at Calabasas City Hall, 26135 Mureau Road, or call (818) 878-4225. The deadline for filing applications is Feb. 16.
