Unlucky Streak a Team-High 13 For Lightning

Donald Audette had two goals and an assist as Buffalo won, 7-3, on Monday night at Tampa, extending the Lightning’s franchise-record losing streak to 13.

Brian Holzinger added a goal and three assists for the Sabres, who have put together a season-best six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2). The Sabres are 7-2-4 over their last 13 games.

The Lightning is also winless in 14 games (0-13-1) since a New Year’s Eve victory over the New York Rangers.

New York Islanders 4, Pittsburgh 2--Paul Kruse scored twice at Pittsburgh as the revitalized Islanders ended the Penguins’ seven-game unbeaten streak.

Ziggy Palffy scored his 28th goal as the Islanders stopped the Penguins’ streak at 5-0-2 and improved their own unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1).

Dallas 5, Toronto 1--Mike Modano scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Stars at Toronto.

Dallas entered the game with the league’s most efficient power play (20.6%), but it was its shorthanded unit that buried the Maple Leafs.

Modano and Guy Carbonneau broke open a close game by scoring short-handed goals in the second period to make it 4-1 for the league-leading Stars.

New Jersey 1, Ottawa 0--Martin Brodeur stopped 21 shots for his fifth shutout of the season as the Devils won at Kanata, Ontario.

It was the eighth time this season Ottawa was shut out, and Brodeur increased his lifetime shutout total to 27.

The victory gave New Jersey sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference.

Colorado 2, Vancouver 1--Sandis Ozolinsh scored on slap shots in the first and third periods for the Avalanche, which won at Vancouver and has an 11-0-3 record against the Canucks since 1995.

New York Rangers 3, San Jose 2--The Rangers got goals from Mike Eastwood, Kevin Stevens and P.J. Stock in taking a 3-0 lead, then held on during a final period in which they were outshot, 13-3, at San Jose.
