ALUMNI REPORT / A weekly look at the college progress of former Orange County prep athletes.
UCLA SOFTBALL
* County connections: Laurie Fritz of Kennedy, Danielle Martin of Dana Hills, Stephanie Swenson of San Clemente and Julie Adams of Cypress. In addition, volunteer assistant coach Jennifer Brundage was a standout player at Irvine High.
* Worth noting: Freshman pitcher Swenson is 2-0 and has yet to give up an earned run. In her first collegiate game, she gave up only one hit and struck out six in a 7-1 victory over St. Mary’s. Fritz, the Bruins’ starting second baseman, is coming off an impressive season, during which she hit safely in 39 consecutive games and batted .324 with 59 hits and 16 runs batted in. Martin is the starting center fielder. Adams will be a redshirt this season while she is rehabilitating from arm surgery last fall.
