White Cap Industries Inc.: The specialty tools and materials retailer reported third-quarter net income of $1.7 million, or 15 cents a share, compared with net income of $572,000 for the corresponding quarter a year ago. The company launched its initial public stock offering in October 1997. Revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 31 rose to $50 million from $22 million. A net loss of $3.7 million, or 36 cents a share, was recorded for the nine-month period, compared with net income of $2.6 million for the comparable three quarters of the previous fiscal year. Sales were up 93% to $136.3 million from $70.7 million.
