City Hall Goes to Bat for the Angels
As the Anaheim Angels head off to spring training in Arizona, Mayor Tom Daly on Tuesday wished the team good luck for a championship season.
“This send-off ceremony is our way of helping to get the team off to a good start,” Daly said after a rally at City Hall.
The mayor presented Angel Manager Terry Collins with a proclamation from the City Council. With the home opening game April 1 against the New York Yankees, Daly predicted an exciting season for fans and the team, which moved to Anaheim in 1966. “With the remodeled stadium and the Angels’ aggressive style of playing, 1998 will be a lot of fun for the fans,” Daly said.
The $115-million renovated stadium, now called Edison International Field of Anaheim, will be popular with the fans, especially the $4 bleacher seats geared for families, Daly said.
Angel pitchers Jason Dickson and Mike Holtz were on hand at the rally to sign autographs.
