Children’s Groups Get Ocean Festival Awards
The 21st annual Ocean Festival proved its title as the “Greatest Show on Surf” this week when organizers handed out $17,000 in proceeds from last year’s event to local children’s groups.
The festival, launched in 1966, is held each year in mid-July.
The awards included $2,500 to the Boys and Girls Club of the South Coast Area, $2,500 to the Discovery Science Center, $1,000 to Concordia Elementary School’s Future Scientists and Engineers of America program and $1,000 to American Youth Soccer Organization Region II in San Clemente.
Other awards included $500 gifts to Meals on Wheels, the Leukemia Society and San Clemente Friends of the Library. The city of San Clemente was given $800.
