Rain or Not, La Habra to Shine This Weekend
The 20th annual I Love La Habra fair will continue through Sunday night, no matter what the weather brings, organizers said.
“This is the biggest fund-raiser for some of the city’s nonprofit groups, so it must go on,” said Kay Jacklin, the city’s supervisor of recreation and social services.
Last year, the three charitable organization that sponsored the festival raised $5,000 each. A number of other nonprofit groups, schools and sports leagues averaged about $1,000 each.
By the end of this year’s event, more than 10,000 people are expected to have attended, and the profits are expected to match last year’s, Jacklin said.
She said the festival began as a campaign to get residents to shop in the heart of the city on the weekend before Valentine’s Day. Soon the fair grew, but it still exemplifies a small-town gathering, Jacklin said. “La Habra is a little hometown, and this fair really helps maintain the hometown feeling.”
