Tekelec’s Income, Revenues Surge in 4th Quarter

Tekelec saw its fourth-quarter net income more than triple on an 81% surge in revenues.
In its quarter that closed Dec. 31, Tekelec posted net income of $8.9 million, compared with a profit of $2.6 million a year ago, while its revenues rose to $43.4 million, up from $24.0 million.
For all of 1997, Tekelec posted a profit of $29.0 million, including a one-time tax benefit of $9 million, while in fiscal year 1996 the company suffered a net loss of $2.5 million. Its revenues last year rose 74% to $125.1 million, compared with $72.1 million in 1996.
The company also said its orders in the fourth quarter surged by 68%.
Tekelec, based in Calabasas, is a supplier of diagnostic systems and computer network switching devices. Its customers include many regional phone companies.
