Obscene Callers Claim to Be With the Police

Authorities are warning residents about a rash of obscene collect phone calls placed in the last two weeks by people claiming to be the police.
The calls begin with a woman claiming to be an AT&T; operator who says she has a collect emergency call from the “Orange County Police Department,” Buena Park police said.
A representative of that nonexistent agency then says officers need help catching a stalker in the area and tells the victim to perform lewd acts, police said.
Most of the calls have been in the early morning to homes in Buena Park, police said.
Buena Park Police Sgt. Ken Coovert advised people not to “accept any collect phone calls from people claiming to be the police. We don’t call collect.”
