Kitchen Blaze Causes $20,000 in Damage

A fire that began on the stove top of a Simi Valley home Monday afternoon spread through the kitchen and caused about $20,000 in damages, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
The house, located in the 1100 block of Hudson Court, caught fire when cooking oil ignited and spread to the kitchen curtains at about 4:38 p.m., fire officials said.
Fifteen firefighters fought the blaze for about 25 minutes. Firefighters estimate there was $15,000 damage to the residence and an additional $5,000 damage to its contents. There were no injuries, fire officials said.
