Bicyclist Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver
GARDEN GROVE — A 35-year-old bicyclist died after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver, Garden Grove police said.
William Bell of Anaheim was riding east in the 10800 block of Chapman Avenue in driving rain about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.
An eastbound vehicle nearing Bell slowed, but a car behind it swerved around the first vehicle just as Bell swerved to miss a large puddle, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Paul McInerny said.
The car hit Bell’s bicycle and the impact threw him into a telephone pole, McInerny said.
He was dead on arrival at UCI Medical Center in Orange, police said.
The car that hit Bell fled the scene, McInerny said.
It is described as a two-door Ford Thunderbird, 1975-78, with a dark tan vinyl roof and medium blue body, police said.
