Club Hoppin’ / Red Hot
Even without special Valentine’s Day events, these clubs could be just the right spot to spend the holiday:
Bar Deluxe, 1710 N. Las Palmas Ave., Hollywood, (213) 469-1991. If you could test the pulse of this fiery bar, its level o’ love would be flashing “Hot Stuff.” 21 and over, cover varies.
The Derby, 4500 Los Feliz Blvd., Los Feliz, (213) 663-8979. Maybe it’s an obvious choice, but this lovely swing club still has the ability to warm even the coldest heart. Performing on Valentine’s Day is Lee Press-On & the Nails. 21 and over, $7 cover.
Dresden Room, 1760 N. Vermont Ave., Los Feliz, (213) 665-4294. With the success of the movie “Swingers,” Johnny-come-latelies keep requesting the husband-and-wife lounge duo of Marty and Elayne Roberts to disco out (the couple’s brief appearance in the film found them on Bee Gees terrain). Cut them some slack on Valentine’s Day: Elayne would much rather sing love songs. 21 and over, no cover.
Dragstrip 66 at Rudolpho’s, 2500 Riverside Drive, Silver Lake, (213) 969-2596. This monthly dance club is calling all queens to its “St. Valentine’s Day Bleeding Hearts Ball,” which promises guests wearing red with their “hearts on their sleeves” will pay less at the door. 21 and over, $5 to $15 cover (members in drag pay $5, nonmembers in drag pay $10, all other human variations pay $15).
Goldfingers, 6423 Yucca St., Hollywood, (213) 962-2913. Hearts are on fire at this hip little Hollywood club, which is getting all gussied up for a date with fate this Saturday, adding a V-Day splash to its trashy gilded sense of style (dancing with DJ Tommy till 2 a.m.). 21 and over, $5 cover.
Scruffy O’Sheas, 822 Washington Blvd., Marina del Rey, (310) 821-0833. OK, so you never had a chance to be a full-on groupie of Mick, Keith et al when they were in their prime. Sticky Fingers, a Rolling Stones tribute band that performs at Scruffy’s on Saturday at 11 p.m., may offer the next best thing. 21 and over, $10 cover (diners receive a complimentary glass of champagne).
Smog Cutter, 864 N. Virgil Ave., Silver Lake, (213) 667-9832. It may be a heartless night for the singles set, but this karaoke dive gives fellow spurn victims a chance to sing “Heartbreaker” at the top of their lungs. 21 and over, no cover.
