Carpool Lanes
“Many Car-Poolers Prefer the Slow Lane, Survey Finds” (Feb. 9) misses one very crucial point: Carpool lanes are traps to drive in!
Twice I’ve been in the carpool lane driving about 70 mph when pickup trucks came up behind me, tailgated me viciously, then when I wouldn’t drive faster than 70, pulled out across the double line and again in front of me, nearly taking off my right front fender.
Those lanes somehow give permission for people to drive way too fast. They’re like death traps, since you can only enter/exit in certain places. I have never once seen anyone pulled over for frightful violations in those lanes. So if anyone is wondering why so few people are using them, please look around. They’re not worth losing your life over.
