Ex-Governor Slapped With More Probation
Former Gov. Guy Hunt went to court to try to get released from probation early and was stunned when a judge instead added five years to his sentence, told him he will have to repay $200,000 faster and suggested he get a job. “I’m at a loss to understand what happened,” Hunt said. Hunt, convicted on ethics charges for pocketing $200,000 from his 1987 inaugural fund, began serving five years of probation in 1994. He was also ordered to repay the money plus about $12,000 in fines. Instead of releasing him from probation four months early, Circuit Judge Sally Greenhaw gave the Republican five more years.
