LOCAL NOTES
Carmen Schmidt, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter from Eugene (Ore.) Sheldon High School, said she has signed a letter of intent to play women’s volleyball at UC Irvine.
She is the second recruit to commit to Irvine. Michelle Wong, a 5-11 outside hitter from North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, also has signed with UCI.
Schmidt was a first-team all-league selection after leading Sheldon to an 18-0 record last season.
