‘Fugitive’ Name Game

Your Feb. 7 Morning Report mentioned videocassette reissues of the 1960s TV series “The Fugitive,” starring David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble and Barry Morse as Lt. “Sam” Gerard. Gerard’s first name was Sam only in the feature film starring Harrison Ford. In the TV series, which I produced from 1963-66, his name was Philip. Why the change? I suspect the screenwriter regarded the name “Sam” as more macho.
