Local Crop Walk to Help Fight Hunger
Thousands of Ventura County residents are expected to hit the streets March 8 for the 21st annual Crop Walk to fight hunger worldwide.
Last year, nearly 1,500 county residents raised a total of $86,000, with $21,500 staying in the region to go toward Food Share shelters, community pantries and other local hunger programs, said Crop Walk coordinators Cloene Marson of Oxnard and Judy Alexandre of Ventura.
This year, walks in Camarillo, Conejo Valley, Moorpark, Ojai, Oxnard-Port Hueneme, Santa Paula and Ventura will coincide with more than 1,800 similar events nationwide, Marson said.
Revenues from U.S. Crop Walks are distributed locally and to more than 70 countries to help alleviate hunger and pay for disaster-response costs. International agencies that use the money include Care, Catholic Relief Service and the American-Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
