Travelers passing through Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport will have a bigger waiting area and improved access to concession stands by the end of the year.
The Board of Airport Commissioners on Tuesday awarded a $1.45-million contract to Amelco Construction of Gardena to remodel the lounge.
Amelco will add 2,700 square feet to the waiting area and an enclosed smoking section.
Travelers now must pass through the smoking area to reach the lounge and concession stands.
The lounge serves more than 500,000 passengers per year.
Construction is scheduled to begin in April and conclude by the end of the year.
