Former Congressman Begins Prison Term
WASHINGTON — Former Rep. Donald Lukens (R-Ohio) has begun serving a 30-month sentence for accepting bribes during his troubled final months in office.
The federal Bureau of Prisons said Thursday that Lukens began serving his term Jan. 28 at a low-security facility in Beaumont, Texas.
Lukens, 67, was voted out in a 1990 primary a year after he was convicted on a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the unruliness of a minor.
In a separate matter, a three-year investigation led to the indictment of Lukens and an Ohio businessman accused of bribing him.
