Police Identify 3 Who Died in Crash
PALMDALE — Police on Monday identified three people killed in a head-on vehicle collision.
John Schauer, 39, of Lancaster and son Wesley Schauer, 13, of Palmdale were pronounced dead at the scene, said David Miklos of the Los Angeles Sheriff Department’s Palmdale station. They were in a van.
The lone driver of a smaller car was identified as Jaleel Ayed, 19, of Lancaster. Ayed was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred Sunday just after 8 p.m. on Sierra Highway at Avenue O-8, according to authorities.
John Schauer, accompanied by his wife and six of their children, was traveling south, Miklos said. Ayed apparently crossed the center line and smashed into the van, which flew into the air and landed on another car.
The cause of the accident has not been determined. There was no indication the vehicles were traveling faster than the 60 mph speed limit, authorities said.
