Pringle Gives His Support to Maddox
Assemblyman Curt Pringle (R-Garden Grove) on Tuesday endorsed Garden Grove City Councilman Ken Maddox in the Republican primary to succeed him in the Legislature.
Pringle said Maddox “is the most committed to the conservative philosophy and will be most effective and articulate in representing that view.”
Pringle, who must leave the Assembly because of term limits, is running for state treasurer.
But GOP leaders disagree about who should be the Republican nominee for Pringle’s seat in the June 2 primary.
Senate Republican leader Rob Hurtt (R-Garden Grove) has backed lawyer John Kellogg in the race, as has Assemblymen Scott Baugh (R-Huntington Beach) and Jim Morrissey (R-Santa Ana). Hurtt based his backing of Kellogg on his “dedication to Republican principles and his countless hours of service to our party,” he said in a statement.
Also competing for the nomination is Garden Grove City Councilman Ho Chung. He has been endorsed by conservative leader Rev. Lou Sheldon and three county supervisors: Charles V. Smith, Jim Silva and William G. Steiner.
The seat in central Orange County was held by a Democrat, Tom Umberg, before Pringle won it in 1992.
