Red Cross Schedules 3 First-Aid Courses

Residents interested in helping their family and neighbors during emergencies caused by El Nino storms may enroll in first-aid courses at the Ventura County chapter of the American Red Cross.

Three separate courses will be offered next month at both the Red Cross’ west county office at 2355 Portola Road in Ventura and at its east county facility at 1919 Williams St. in Simi Valley, said spokeswoman Carol Becker.

Standard First Aid, a seven-hour class that includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, is scheduled in Ventura from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 3, 13, 26, and 28, and over two days--March 17 and 24--from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In Simi Valley, the class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 7 and 19.

Community First Aid and Safety, a nine-hour workshop that is the most comprehensive first-aid and CPR course the Red Cross offers to the public, is set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 5 and 7 in Ventura. In Simi Valley, the course will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 11 and 28.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer will be offered in Ventura from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 12 and in Simi Valley over two days--March 16 and 23--from 6 to 10 p.m.

In addition, for those who want to become instructors of Community First Aid and Safety classes, a two-day course in Ventura is scheduled for March 14 and 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
