‘Spay Day’ Goal Is to Control Pet Population

Saturday is “Spay Day” in Orange County.

Actually, it’s Spay Day all over America, a reminder that it’s important to have a pet spayed or neutered.

According to the Orange County Health Care Agency, a single breeding pair of cats and their offspring can produce 20,000 cats in four years.

In that same time, a breeding pair of dogs and their offspring can create 67,000 pups. Many of those animals are unwanted and end up in shelters.

Grim facts aside, Spay Day is supposed to be a festive event. Mark and Kim from KOST-FM (103.5) will broadcast live from the event at the Orange County Animal Shelter, 561 City Drive South, Orange.

Anyone who adopts a pet will get a certificate from the Animal Assistance League to have their new pet spayed or neutered free.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
