Flores Gets Four-Hitter for Titans

Cal State Fullerton pitcher Benito Flores pitched a four-hitter as the Titans upset previously undefeated Alabama, 6-2, in a nonconference game Friday night at Titan Field.

Flores walked four and struck out nine for his third victory of the season. Flores made only one pitching mistake, which led to a home run by Alabama’s G.W. Keller.

The Crimson Tide (10-1), ranked in second, third and fifth in the three baseball polls, was limited to fewer than six hits for the first time this season.

David Bacani had three hits and two runs batted in for the Titans (9-5), ranked 25th by USA Today/Baseball Weekly. Teammate Reed Johnson had two hits and two runs scored.

In nonconference baseball:

Chapman 9, Menlo 5--Adam Olow was three for five with one RBI and Rob O’Brien was one for three with a three-run homer for host Chapman. Clint Blevins (1-0) pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief to win it for the Panthers (7-3).

Southern California College 4, George Fox (Ore.) 1--James Dent hit a two-run double in the fourth inning that sparked a four-run rally as host SCC held on for a victory. Donovan McReynolds pitched five innings for his first victory of the season.

Kelly Lowery gave up two hits and no runs in four innings for the save.

The Vanguards are 6-5.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Chapman 71, Menlo 59--Gil Gonzales scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds in a victory for host Chapman (12-10). Tim Werdel had 17 points for the Panthers and teammate Anthony Brown scored 15 points.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s tennis:

Southern California College 7, Biola 2--Debbie Fultz defeated Biola’s Samantha Navarro, 6-0, 6-1, in a victory for Southern California College (4-3, 3-1). Fultz teamed with Carin Crawford to defeat Navarro and Jana Blied in doubles, 8-6.

Pacific Christian 8-3, Redlands 1-4--Leslie Williams was one for four with a three-run homer for Pacific Christian. It was Williams’ fourth homer this season. Amanda Boswell (4-0) pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits and striking out five for the Royals (7-1).
