Granada Hills’ Season Comes to Forgettable End
Things quickly went from bad to worse for Granada Hills High, which fell to Fairfax, 67-37, in a City Section 3-A Division semifinal game Friday night at Occidental College.
The Highlanders (17-5) did not take a shot in the first two minutes after having the ball stolen on their first three possessions and then lost starting forward Kelly Patterson with a knee injury.
Top-seeded Fairfax (22-6) took advantage of 12 turnovers by the No. 4-seeded Highlanders and led, 19-6, after one quarter.
The Pathfinders went on a 21-0 tear for a 40-9 lead with 2:53 to play in the first half.
“We can’t beat ourselves down about this,” said Highlander guard Jessica Cosby. “We played our best and we have to be happy with what we accomplished.”
Cosby finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, Jillian Lang scored eight points and Lindy Gayton pulled down 11 rebounds for Granada Hills.
The Highlanders were bidding for their first City final appearance since winning the 3-A title in 1992.
Fairfax’s Amanda Lencioni made five of seven three-point baskets and finished with a game-high 21 points.Michelle Tompkins and Sunday Sims each had 16 points for Fairfax.
