2 Charged in Mulholland Drive Fatal Shooting of Burbank Man
Two Los Angeles men have been charged with murder, attempted murder and attempted robbery in connection with the fatal shooting in October of Dario Torres, a Burbank man who sat parked in a vehicle along Mulholland Drive with a companion.
The charges were filed against Glynn Ward, 21, and Remi King, 24, on Friday after an investigation by Los Angeles Police Department detectives, officials said.
The two men were already in custody on other charges unrelated to the murder, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. An arraignment on the charges was postponed Tuesday to allow a defense team to be found for the two men.
Lee Rosen, a public defender who temporarily represented Ward on Tuesday, said that “our best, most experienced and brightest” lawyers are necessary for the defense because the case could result in the death penalty or life imprisonment.
Ward and King, who were being held on no bail, allegedly tried to rob Torres, 32, who then started his 1997 Jeep Cherokee and tried to drive away, police said. His body was found within the wreckage of the Jeep, which had plunged 160 feet down a ravine in the Beverly Glen area, according to the district attorney’s office. Torres had been shot in the head. His companion, Hazel Maroto, survived the crash and called for help on a cellular telephone, police said.
