* Dayton C. Fouts; Longtime Santa Claus
Dayton C. Fouts, 85, who portrayed Santa Claus for 60 years. Fouts began the role in 1937 and made his last public appearance as the red-robed, white-furred saint Dec. 14 at a Tucson Boys Chorus concert. The 1998 Guinness Book of World Records recognizes him as the world’s longest tenured Santa Claus. In July, Fouts was an honored guest at the annual Father Christmas convention in Copenhagen.
