Performance Is Record-Shattering

If Washington was looking for an opponent to fatten its shooting percentage against, USC filled the bill nicely Thursday.

Before the game, the Huskies were shooting 48.9%, largely because of 7-foot center Todd MacCulloch, who gets a lot of dunks and layups. But Washington shot 54.1% against USC and the longer the shot, the better. The Huskies made 14 of 22 three-point shots, a staggering 63.6%. The 14 three-pointers set a school record.

USC junior Adam Spanich had a hot hand as well, making seven three-point goals. And his 35 points were the most scored by a USC player since 1993, when Rodney Chatman had 37 against California.

Update--USC senior forward Gary Williams, hospitalized a week ago because of a colon infection, played two minutes against Washington on Thursday and is expected to play tonight. Gary Johnson, the Trojans’ starting point guard and second-leading scorer (12.5 points), went scoreless in 12 minutes against the Huskies.
