From Times Wire Reports
The Southwest and Texas baked under 100-degree temperatures, extending a heat wave blamed in at least 60 deaths nationwide. The record-breaking heat was expected to last through the weekend, as temperatures across the region were to reach well into the 100s, breaking decades-old records in some spots. The mercury exceeded 100 degrees for the 12th consecutive day in Dallas, and in other parts of the country, at least 20 people have died in Louisiana, six in Oklahoma and one in Arizona since mid-May because of the heat.
