SAN FRANCISCO — Carmen Policy has resigned as president of the San Francisco 49ers, CNN/SI reported on its Web site Tuesday night.
Policy reportedly informed NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue of his decision last weekend.
CNN/SI said Policy resigned in person to Marie Denise DeBartolo York. She gained control of the franchise in December from her brother, Eddie DeBartolo, amid reports he could be indicted in a probe of a Louisiana gambling fraud case.
CNN/SI reported that former San Francisco coach Bill Walsh is a likely candidate to replace Policy.
