Jackson Quits His Job With Yankees

Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson reportedly has quit his advisory job with the New York Yankees, the latest turn in a long-running love-hate relationship with owner George Steinbrenner.

Because of his resignation, Jackson will not participate in the Yankees’ Old Timers’ Day on Saturday, the New York Post said, citing unidentified sources.

The Minnesota Twins agreed to a new lease agreement that would keep them in the Metrodome for two more seasons.

Details of the plan still must be finalized, and is subject to approval by the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission. Commissioners are expected to vote Friday.

Details of the lease weren’t provided after people from the Twins and the commission met for about 5 1/2 hours in downtown Minneapolis.

The Seattle Mariners, who could be without injured catcher Dan Wilson for at least a month, signed veteran Joe Oliver.

Oliver played in 50 games for Detroit this season, hitting .226 with four homers and 26 RBIs before being released by the Tigers.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays put right fielder Dave Martinez on the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Rich Butler from triple-A Durham.
