MOVIES

“Airplane!” and “Naked Gun’s” David Zucker takes aim at the world of professional sports in his latest satire, “BASEketball,” which features Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the animated “South Park” series, and has cameos by sports and film notables. It opens Friday in general release.

MOVIES

Disney’s new reworking of “The Parent Trap” finds Lindsay Lohan inheriting the dual roles created by Hayley Mills as twin sisters who conspire to reconcile their estranged parents, this time played by Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson. The film opens in general release on Wednesday.

THEATER

Linda Purl and James Morrison head the cast in the premiere of Michael J. Chepiga’s romantic comedy “Getting and Spending,” about a Wall Street whiz who needs the world’s greatest defense attorney--and fast. Trouble is, the lawyer is in a monastery. It opens Saturday at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre.

MUSIC

The justly celebrated, ever-unpredictable violinist Gidon Kremer brings his 28-member ensemble from the Baltic nations, KREMERata BALTICA, to the Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday in another surprising evening of Kremer lore, featuring music by Arvo Part, Vivaldi, Nino Rota and Piazzolla.

DANCE

Choreographer Pat Taylor and composer Mark Shelby of the locally based Jazzantiqua Dance and Music Ensemble will present repertory excerpts, “Come Sunday” and “In the Beginning” outdoors at the John Anson Ford Theatre in Cahuenga Pass on Saturday.

ART

More than 100 photographs will be displayed in “Walker Evans: New York,” opening Tuesday at the J. Paul Getty Museum. Best known for his black-and-white Depression-era works, this survey focuses on the people, architecture and streets of the city. Above: “Young Man in Casual Business Attire” (April 1963).

POP MUSIC

Long before the memories of last fall’s phenomenally successful Fleetwood Mac reunion tour fade away, Stevie Nicks is back out on the road. She’ll be joined by Boz Scaggs on Monday night at the Universal Amphitheatre, while Michael McDonald opens for her on Friday night at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre.

JAZZ

It’ll be “Bebop Heaven on Earth” tonight at the John Anson Ford Theatre, with a lineup featuring Annie Ross (a jazz heroine from the 1950s), Joe Williams, the Gerald Wiggins Trio swinging joyfully and other notables such as trumpeter Conte Candoli and altoists Lanny Morgan and Med Flory.

Early Warning: The Broadway production of “Barrymore,” starring Christopher Plummer as the titular acting icon, opens Sept. 9 at the Ahmanson Theatre.
