Authorities Arrest 4 More Dissidents

Police have detained four more dissidents, bringing to 21 the number arrested in the last two weeks, a monitoring group said. Five police officers went to Jin Jiwu’s house in southern Hunan province Friday night, arresting him and three other dissidents meeting there, the Information Center of Human Rights and Democratic Movement in China said. Since July 10, a week after President Clinton wrapped up his visit, authorities have detained 21 dissidents, of whom eight remain in custody, the group said. Jin and the three others--Liu Hai, Li Yingzhi and Song Ge--were discussing whether to issue a petition calling for the release of another activist.
