Cyclists Get More Than Their Share
Re “He’s Peddling a 1% Solution to Congestion,” Orange County Voices, Feb. 15:
Don Harvey writes and pleads beautifully for the Orange County Bicycle Coalition.
How does he substantiate his assertion that it is “generally accepted that 1% of travelers use bikes”? It would be hard to convince most citizens that “bike lanes” are greatly occupied.
For decades, as a special interest group, [bicyclists] have pounded the table to demand that many facilities be provided for them, at someone else’s expense.
Hundreds of miles of “bike lanes” have been built for the use of a few. How many cyclists does the public see utilizing bike lanes? Don’t tell me that these bike lanes are for schoolchildren; aren’t they bused to school?
